Hasie & the Robots Hand Painted Massive Attack Disc
When one of our best and favourite customers came to us with a Pinterest board full of ideas for her new Massive Attack Disc, Johan (AKA Hasie & the Robots) took the best bits and proceeded to blow our minds.
The design was inspired by colourful street art and 3D graffiti. Right up Johan's street. Once we'd been given the nod by our customer, the whole process was collaborative between Johan and WM Paintworks. WMP prepared the frame, masked out the logos, applied the base pink to blue fade and then handed it over to Johan to add the colour blocks on the hand painted areas.
Taking that inspiration from flat 2D surfaces and bringing it to life on a relatively small 3D canvas was a meticulous and challenging task. 120 hours went into the hand painting aspects of this beauty, most of that went into building the black framework in and around that block colour to create the 3D effect. Once Johan had done his thing, the frame was handed over to Sam at WMP to add the final touches and bring the whole thing to life. Sam came up with the idea of adding a turquoise flake which resulted in the flawless sparkle you see here.
We're stoked having the combo of Johan, Sam, and Luke operating as the WMP Collective.
By the way..... we're definitely making painted rotors a thing.
